We are currently involved with the following projects. We also welcome any expressions of interest or potential collaboration or partnership.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at Maggie's Glasgow
Maggie's offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Research has shown that Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) can help relieve symptoms and improve quality of life for people in various healthcare settings, and has been reported to improve mood, reduce anxiety, improve concentration and reduce pain and hormone related symptoms among cancer patients.
Experienced facilitators from the Mindfulness Scotland team, in collaboration with Maggie's Centre staff, delivered five MBSR courses between January 2017 and June 2018. The group programme was delivered over eight weeks and each session lasted two hours. Participants engaged in daily mindfulness exercises, and the overall aim was to reduce stress and promote wellbeing. We have also facilitated several drop-in practice mornings for those who completed an eight-week programme.
This work was funded by JMA Trust.

Support for NHS Staff
In collaboration with the Health Improvement team at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, the Mindfulness Scotland team are working to develop and deliver Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MSBR) programmes to all NHSGGC staff free of charge. Our shared goal is to promote and support better wellbeing for all staff.
The project began in 2016 and as of 2018 is still delivering eight-week programmes across the NHS Board, ensuring equality of access for all staff. |
Support for Veterans
Mindfulness Scotland, in collaboration with Combat Stress, has delivered two pilot programmes for veterans. We are also involved with the ongoing training of several members of the Combat Stress team in mindfulness approaches for those struggling with issues of trauma. This project is evolving in pace with resources and training.
Mindfulness In Schools
Several members of the Mindfulness Scotland team have been trained in the MBCT for Life programme developed by the Oxford Mindfulness Centre as part of the Myriad project. Mindfulness Scotland Chair, Dr Alistair Wilson, delivered training to a group of teachers in Stirlingshire in early 2018, some of whom have gone on to train in the Myriad approach for mindfulness in schools.
